The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has pledged to deliver a consistent 24-hour power supply to the communities of Magboro and Mowe within the next 11 months.
This commitment follows the signing of a significant ₦180 billion power purchase agreement on Monday, October 28, 2024, with Bresson A.S. and Magboro Power Company. The agreement outlines a 30 MW power supply project specifically designed to improve energy reliability and access for residents in these areas.
IBEDC spokesperson Busola Tunwase confirmed the agreement in a statement to Advisors Reports on Monday, highlighting that the deal includes the deployment of advanced energy infrastructure. Tunwase further announced that the first shipment of Titan 170 Solar Turbines, intended for the 90 MW Magboro Power Plant, is scheduled to arrive by April 2025.
These turbines will play a critical role in the plant’s capacity to meet local energy needs, bringing a long-awaited boost to the energy supply for Magboro and its surrounding communities.Engr. Francis Agoha, Acting Managing Director of IBEDC, emphasized the strategic significance of this partnership in his remarks during the signing ceremony.
Agoha pointed out that the project aligns with the federal government’s target to reach 6,000 MW of power generation in 2024, underlining IBEDC’s commitment to supporting national goals for energy access and reliability.
“This agreement marks a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide consistent and affordable power to the Magboro community and beyond,” he stated. According to Agoha, the initiative is part of IBEDC’s long-term strategy to strengthen its energy distribution network, ensuring that customers within its jurisdiction experience fewer interruptions and improved service delivery.Magboro Power Company, an independent power developer involved in the agreement, is expected to play a crucial role in project implementation.
The company will work closely with IBEDC and Bresson A.S. to bring the project to life, using its expertise to construct and manage the facilities required for this expanded energy output.
This collaboration represents a unified effort to tackle longstanding power challenges in the region, aiming to create a more sustainable and dependable power supply network for residents and businesses alike. The project, once fully implemented, will provide a reliable energy source that supports local economic development and improves the quality of life for residents.
For IBEDC, this is also an opportunity to build stronger community relations by addressing frequent power supply issues in Magboro and Mowe.
“We remain committed to building partnerships that drive progress and deliver sustainable solutions to the power challenges within our network,” added Agoha. With the anticipated arrival of the Titan 170 Solar Turbines and the ongoing construction efforts, the Magboro Power Plant project is expected to progress swiftly, setting a foundation for future developments.
This initiative not only reflects IBEDC’s dedication to enhancing energy availability but also highlights a significant advancement in Nigeria’s journey towards a stable and sustainable power infrastructure.
