Babcock University is preparing to host the 8th edition of the Nigeria Private University Games Association (NPUGA), scheduled to run from August 12 to 22, 2025.
The event will bring together about 30 private universities from across the country for ten days of sporting competition and camaraderie.
The NPUGA games, which began in 2005 with the first edition hosted at Igbinedion University, have become a vital platform for private university students to display their sporting talents. The event not only promotes athletic excellence but also fosters unity, networking, and healthy competition among students.
Speaking to Newsmen, Babcock University’s Director of Sports, Dr. Osundina Olasunkanmi, highlighted the significance of NPUGA to student development.
“NPUGA is a platform where private university students showcase their talents in sports,” he said. “It brings everyone together and serves as an avenue for students to also participate in sports and meet their counterparts from other universities.”
He also linked the significance of sports to recent national celebrations, referring to the Super Falcons and D’Tigress, who were recently honored at the Aso Villa for winning their 10th WAFCON and 7th Afrobasket titles respectively.
“This shows how important sports are in nation-building and youth development,” he added.
On Babcock University’s preparedness, Dr Osundina assured that the institution has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure a successful and well-organized event.
“We’ve put so many things in place to host a very successful competition,” he said.
The 2025 edition will feature eight sporting events: football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, tennis, table tennis, scrabble, and athletics. With hundreds of student-athletes expected to participate, the event promises excitement, competitive spirit, and lasting memories.
As the date draws near, anticipation is building for what is expected to be one of the most engaging and impactful editions of NPUGA Games.
